USWNT outlasts Netherlands in penalty shootout for Olympic semifinal berth

The U.S. Women’s National Team advanced to the Olympic semifinal with a 3-0 win against the Netherlands in front of a boisterous crowd in Lyon, France on Wednesday night.

The game was tied at zero, but an aggressive attacking style from the USWNT led to two goals late in the first half through Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan. The Netherlands were awarded a penalty kick just seconds before halftime, but goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher made an incredible save that would prove to be significant later on in the game.
